    There were not many who wrote "adventure books" in these times. Fiction as we know it was not exactly widespread. Cervantes' Don Quixote, which is considered the first "novel" was written in this time period. I suppose you could call it an adventure book.
    And for the record, Walt Whitman wasn't even born until 1819. The first edition of Leaves of Grass was published in 1855. And Whitman wrote mostly poetry and nonfiction, not adventure books.
