Today we have left behind the days when the only jobs that the iGaming sector could offer were jobs as waiters, croupiers, security, or cleaning staff. This used to happen in the old land-based casinos, but it is now a thing of the past, as even the land-based casinos that traditionally had all their business in large buildings in the main cities of each country now have most of their business on the internet.
This is what we have been told by one of these specialized sites.
And the fact is that online casinos, as well as the websites that appear around them (such as casino affiliate websites or iGaming providers), offer numerous different jobs that we can categorize into 5 main ones (although there are more, perhaps most of them are included here).
Programming and IT in general
Every single website that offers any iGaming product or service to users needs to be custom developed, so it is something that involves web developers. And not one or two. Most casino sites have large development teams that program their products.
Within IT jobs, we can’t leave out the ones that are growing the most in recent years, especially when data is becoming the most valuable asset for businesses in any sector, and of course, it’s no different with online iGaming companies.
Data means everything and allows you to make decisions based on the parameters you get in different areas of your business. For these types of jobs, they often hire workers coming from university degrees such as mathematics or statistics, although there are many different profiles that could access these data analyst jobs and the like.
Marketing
Most online casinos have large marketing departments that are divided into smaller departments. Some of these may be those that work directly with affiliates. Others may be in charge of sponsorships of competitions or sports teams, advertisements in media such as television… there are many different positions within a marketing department of a large company.
We cannot forget those who are directly focused on acquiring customers through their own channels, such as specialists in web traffic, both through paid and organic traffic.
As you can see, within marketing, we have different sectors or departments that must be covered by specific personnel.
Customer service
Any casino worth its salt will have a customer service department that must work 24 hours a day to solve any problem that may have arisen in the iGaming account of different customers.
Finance
An online casino, as well as any of the different types of websites that may arise around online gambling, needs to manage its finances in great detail. That is why in online casinos, we can find large finance departments, which in turn are also divided into smaller departments, as there are very different tasks that need to be performed by different people who are highly specialized in them. For example, they will need someone to manage the daily payouts and cashouts that the casino makes, as when players request winnings from the casino, someone has to review that transaction and authorize it from the payments department.
Another very important position that all online casinos should have is a specialist in preventing money laundering, as they should make every effort to ensure that their casino is not a place where money laundering takes place.
This is required by all regulators around the world, regardless of the country. Examples are Malta and the United Kingdom.
Creative jobs
Although they could possibly fall into one of the other categories, as they work closely with several of them, creatives are responsible for making everything look good – from the banner to be used as an advertisement on affiliated websites to the video to be used as a TV commercial.
Of course, good creative work will always support the efforts of other departments, such as marketing or web development, to achieve the desired effect and achieve the objectives that have been set, so although it is often a job that goes unnoticed, we should always keep them in mind because they help the brand as such to grow and the strength of the brand itself to increase and be more recognizable in the minds of consumers, as happens in any other sector.
Employment opportunities
You will certainly be able to find a job in the online casino industry, but it is very likely that you will need some form of higher education, degree, or experience to do so.
However, on many job portals, you will be able to find offers for this type of job quite easily, as by simply searching for the name of the company on the internet, you will see that it is a company related to the gambling sector.
In any case, you can also look for jobs on some specialized sites, but without a doubt, one of the things that work best for this is Linkedin: it connects you with people who work in this sector, and you are sure that they will often find out about vacancies that may be available in their company or in companies where people they know work and they can let you know about them.
Also, on Linkedin, you can find recruiting companies that specialize in the online iGaming sector, so you can follow them to find out about any new vacancies in the different companies they work for that are looking for qualified staff.
Where is there more work in iGaming?
The truth is that until two years ago we could make a ranking of the countries where we can find more jobs in the sector, but without a doubt nowadays it makes no sense. Almost all the jobs and offers you can find in this sector can be done from home, with a 100% remote contract, so you don’t have to worry about having to move to a new country to start working in the iGaming sector.
So, if you are interested, you should start updating your CV and connecting with interesting people in the sector on Linkedin. I’m sure your next job in iGaming is much closer than you might think. Good luck with it!
